Sexuality Education: Tools for Parents and Caregivers

We know parents and caregivers are the most important role models and sexual values educators for their children. We offer trainings for parents and caregivers so that they can feel more empowered, educated and confident to approach issues of sexuality with their children.

Our basic curriculum called “It’s That Easy” can be tailored to meet your specific needs. Topics can include, but are not limited to:

  • Messages and Modeling: Caregivers clarify their own values around sexuality and learn about teachable moments to share information and values.
  • Ages and Stages: Trainers provide an overview of typical sexual development, commonly asked questions at each stage and strategies on how best to respond.
  • Media and Technology Influence: How technology and media impacts youth and their sexual development, how to have conversations about the images portrayed and how to help navigate this matter in a healthy and safe way

Customized presentations on the above topics and more are also available for parents of youth with disabilities. Watch our video featuring students who have participated in Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota’s healthy sexuality program called Seeing and Exploring Life’s Future (SELF) showcase the knowledge they gained around healthy relationships, consent, boundaries, safety and self-advocacy.

We also offer a wide range of customized workshops to help you gain the information and confidence you need to help your children navigate decisions around sexual health. Please contact us to see how we can tailor a program to meet your needs.
