"God's work. Our hands." Volunteer Opportunities
Sunday, September 8, 2019
As a social ministry partner of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), we are proud to work with congregations across the state for this year’s “God’s Work. Our Hands.”
Each year the ELCA designates a day and encourages its member churches to serve their neighbor by completing a service project. If your congregation cannot participate on September 8, you may consider doing one of the LSS of MN service projects on another day!
Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.

How It Works
To get started, follow these steps:
- Decide if your congregation prefers to do your project on-site at your church or off-site locally.
- Identify the project you’d like to complete. Choose your region from the 2019 Service Projects list above to see the opportunities available in your community. Register for the project and get in touch with the listed contact person to sign up.
- Plan your day. Details about each project are available on the individual project pages. The contact person for your project can provide any additional project information. Unless otherwise noted, projects will take place on Sunday, September 8, 2019 or you may work with the contact person for your project to find a different date that works for your church.
- Get the word out to your congregation. LSS has a Bulletin Insert and a Worship Guide – these will be posted by early June.
$250 Thrivent Action Grants Available
If you are a Thrivent member, consider applying for a Thrivent Action Team grant to help support your group’s service project. Recipients receive $250 in seed funds to make their service project happen.
Thank you for being a part of God’s work, partnering with LSS and serving your neighbor in the spirit of Christ’s love!
