Psych Armor logoLSS Financial Counseling is uniquely positioned to provide exceptional financial wellness services to those who have served our country. Our team of certified financial counselors has undergone PsychArmor training to better serve service members and veterans.

We partner with the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) and accept referrals through our CORE (Casework, Outreach, Referral and Education) service in partnership. We also serve those who do not meet CORE requirements, and many of our services are free.

Whether you have questions about recent federal changes in loan forgiveness programs, are wondering about alternative payment plans or have a loan on default, we can answer your questions about repaying student loans and assist you in creating a plan. 

Foreclosure Prevention Counseling

Our trusted, experienced and nonjudgmental financial counselors can assist you in looking at your options and finding solutions to keep your home.

Reverse Mortgage Counseling

Access HUD approved reverse mortgage counseling. We serve older adults age 62 years or older who are considering this type of home loan.

Homebuying Services

If you are considering homeownership, an LSS HUD-certified counselor can help you to get your finances in order and provide support throughout the homebuying process.

Financial Education and Train the Trainer

Book an interactive financial literacy presentation for your group. A wide variety of popular financial training topics are available in online or in-person settings.

MAC-V Stand Down for Veterans

Man at Financial Counseling BoothEach year, LSS Financial Counseling participates in the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) Stand Down events for veterans. These events are hosted by the MACV in partnership with local, state and federal organizations. Attendees can receive assistance with housing, legal, employment and tax issues along with local partners providing meals, haircuts and clothing.

 

Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Service

LSS Financial Counseling employees provide outreach at Yellow Ribbon Events, hosted by the Department of Defense in partnership with a wide variety of organizations. The focus is to promote the well-being of National Guard and Reserve members, their families and communities. These events are a place to access information on healthcare, education, employment and financial and legal benefits.

We have counselors who are fluent in Spanish and Hmong. In addition, American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation is available as needed.

Our student loan and housing counseling services are not offered via online (email) appointment at this time, please call 888.577.2227 to schedule a phone, virtual or in-person appointment.

 

To get started:

  1. Create your financial profile online any time of day with an email address and a password.
  2. Next, share your financial goal(s) and any other information you believe would assist us in understanding your financial circumstances.
  3. Then provide the amount of your household take-home income, balances and payment amount for credit card and unsecured debts, and monthly expenses. Click Finish to submit your information. Once submitted, your financial profile cannot be changed or updated.
  4. Finally, a counselor will email you within two to three business days to provide options and work with you to determine next steps to reach your goal(s).
