Servant of Christ Award Winners

Calvary Lutheran Church
Calvary Lutheran Church is being recognized for its many years supporting LSS services, with wide support most recently for LSS Caregiver Services. Calvary has hosted a “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” course and other support groups for the wider community. Calvary has also invited LSS staff to visit and speak with the congregation’s Stephen Ministry Group, in addition to helping to recruit many volunteers needed for a successful caregiver support program.
Grace Lutheran Church
Grace Lutheran Church is being recognized for its support of youth served by Lutheran Social Service who have experienced homelessness. One recent gift of $100 provided the money needed for several youth to buy bus passes to get to new jobs that helped them maintain their housing and stay in school. LSS youth staff also said they appreciate the strong support and spirit of welcome they receive from Grace when they’ve had an opportunity to visit the congregation
House of Prayer Lutheran Church
House of Prayer Lutheran Church is being recognized for its support of people with disabilities who live in the community. Members have provided many acts of kindness and compassion, including building a garden space, reading books to an individual in hospice care, offering a fresh coat of paint to brighten rooms, and organizing fun activities around pumpkin-carving, holiday decorating and bingo.
Incarnation Lutheran Church
Incarnation Lutheran Church is being recognized for its dedication and commitment to young families supported by LSS LifeHaven, a transitional housing service in St. Paul for teen mothers and their children who are experiencing homelessness. Over many years, Incarnation has offered generous financial support, in-kind donations and volunteers who provide meals, childcare, transportation, and gardening support. Their partnership with LifeHaven not only makes it possible for youth to have a safe place and support, but also help with life skills so that youth and their families can live successfully on their own.
Our Savior's Lutheran Church
Spring Valley, MN
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is being recognized for its generous care and concern for the neighbor. At Our Savior’s, young people have been supported through Good Earth Bible Camp and the Lutheran Campus Centers at Winona State University and Minnesota State University in Mankato. And, older adults receive caring support through a prayer, casserole and friendship ministry as well as worship at a local care facility.
Vinje Lutheran Church
Vinje Lutheran Church is being recognized for its special care and compassion for older Minnesotans who are served through LSS Meals. Vinje Lutheran has donated over 1,000 shelf stable meals that are individually packaged with hand-written notes of encouragement and artwork made by youth of the congregation. Meal packages bring joy to older neighbors who rely on these meals during winter storms when door delivery is not possible.
