Our Home and Family
We are Deb and Ron Mertens. Our home is located down 1.2 miles of gravel road, in a rural area. Our closest neighbor is about ¼ mile away and we are 4 miles from the city of Wells. Our house is on five acres of land with pasture and several outbuildings: a storage shed, horse shed and utility building. We have reliable transportation and we can drive anywhere you need to be. Ron will soon be semi-retiring from the family farm, so we have a fairly flexible schedule. Deb does not work outside the home. Our youngest daughter, Darcy (20 yrs), also lives with us.
The Reason We Open Our Home
As we have learned more about Host Homes and the people it serves, we are excited to participate and support the people we will welcome into our home. We look forward to being able to provide them a home and family.
Our Traditions
We usually attend church on Sunday. We plan to visit our adult children more in the years ahead. We try to have a family reunion every year or two, when we usually plan a vacation together. We are also forming new friendships and performing community service together.
Our Faith and Values
We attend a Vineyard church regularly, but are also very involved with several other churches and faith based organizations. We are Jesus followers and hold the whole Bible in high regard.
Our Hobbies and Interests
Our whole family likes to hike and ride bikes. Deb and Darcy like to camp and ride horses. All our pets are outdoors: 2 horses, 3 cats and a very gentle dog. We have many other interests, too numerous to list. We are working toward growing as much of our own food as we can. We like to read or listen to audio books. We occasionally watch movies either at home or in a theater.
