Thanks to members of the local Crosslake community, the annual Iced Tee Golf Event in early March raised $54,000 for LSS Camp Knutson, serving youth and adults with medical conditions and other identified needs. An outstanding 250 golfers participated in the outdoor golf event that included donations by the Bilski family for their famous Bilski Burgers. Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota is proud to recognize nine honorees statewide who received the 2022 President’s Leadership Excellence Award. The award recognizes employees who demonstrate outstanding leadership, inspire colleagues, drive innovation, and build community. They include Janelle Milling, Kelli Whisnant, Jody Shaskey-Setright, Jenni Carrier, Sheri Swopes, Stacy Abdouch, Taymara Montague, Alissa Dott, and Jennifer Kreps.

Holly and Chris Aasen of Mankato have provided a nurturing home and support to more than 35 children in foster care through Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota’s Therapeutic Foster Care program. For their deep dedication to the well-being of children and for providing outstanding child foster care, the Aasens were named the 2022 Foster Family of the Year by the Minnesota Social Service Association in Region 9, which spans nine local counties in south-central Minnesota. Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota is dedicated to preventing sex trafficking among youth and to providing support for young people who have experienced sexual exploitation. A virtual human trafficking prevention awareness event will be offered on Thursday, January 19, from 9–10 a.m. and Noon–1 p.m. Community members are invited to attend and learn how predators conduct online solicitation and groom youth, what is being done to prevent trafficking and support young people, and how the community can help.
