GetLifted Awards to honor creative community members in Minneapolis on September 27

LSS Financial Counseling, a service of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, will host an awards celebration to highlight the creative financial wellness education work of 57 GetLifted participants and businesses from North Minneapolis and the Eastside of Saint Paul.

WHAT: LSS Financial Counseling, a service of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, will host an awards celebration to highlight the creative financial wellness education work of 57 GetLifted participants and businesses from North Minneapolis and the Eastside of Saint Paul.

Event will include:

• A display showcase featuring collateral from the many unique financial education events hosted over the last year by community members.
• A dinner
• Outstanding GetLifted participants will receive awards.

WHO: LSS Financial Counseling leaders and GetLifted award winners will be available for interviews. Local legislators, business and community leaders will attend.

WHY: This event celebrates more than 18 months of work dedicated to moving the needle to increase financial wellness and reduce stigma around debt in North Minneapolis and the Eastside of Saint Paul. GetLifted is a financial wellness ‘train the trainer’ initiative that launched in June of 2017 to reduce shame and stigma surrounding debt.

With generous support from a $425,000 Wells Fargo grant, LSS Financial Counseling provided financial education training to 57 individuals following a selection process. Following their training, these individuals then held 87 creative community events to share their financial knowledge and skills with others and reached over 2,400 people.

Events included a financial paint night, video shoot and movie premier, game show, financial board games, finance carnival, a bingo/jeopardy game, events at high schools, elder centers, parks, homes, libraries, bus stops, barber shops, Dragon Festival, Women’s Club, record store, coffee shops, and boxing club.
