Volunteer and Community Development Associate, AmeriCorps VISTA

Create a more inclusive volunteer program across the state of Minnesota in this one-year position at Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS). Assist in designing a volunteer recruitment strategy to reach all Minnesotans, creating new pathways for underrepresented populations in volunteerism, and documenting comprehensive practices reflective of this work.

Member Duties

LSS is at an exciting tipping point in volunteerism. Engage our nearly 10,000 volunteers, service providers, and community partners to take volunteerism at LSS to the next level. With a keen eye toward equity in volunteering, join our team and share your vision through implementation of a pilot project while also shaping existing processes.

Major Functions Will Include

  1. Develop and pilot a project to recruit volunteers from under-represented populations, including people who are BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and from generations such as Millennials and Baby Boomers.
  2. Identify new and meaningful volunteer experiences by drawing from existing and new partnerships with congregations and community organizations.
  3. Revise the Volunteer Handbook, incorporating “person-centered” language in order to convey LSS’s commitments to transformational relationships and social justice.
  4. Collaborating with partners across the organization, help revamp and elevate the volunteer orientation and training process for LSS volunteer supervisors.

Schedule

  • Standard work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with some flexibility.

The applicant should work well independently and in small groups, possess strong writing, communication, and organizational skills. The applicant should have experience with Microsoft Office software and be comfortable working both in-person and virtually. Some travel may be required. Mileage reimbursement and a professional development allowance will be provided. This AmeriCorps VISTA member will serve people through indirect service and capacity building.

Program Start/End Date

AmeriCorps VISTAs commit to 12 months of service with host organization.

Education Level

Applicant should have a bachelor’s degree, or four years of relevant work experience, or a combination thereof.
