Position Description

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota is one of the largest nonprofit social service organizations in the state. We serve older adults, people with disabilities, and children and families in all 87 counties. In an effort to advance the LSS mission and vision, our organization seeks to grow its services to reach more people with unmet needs. LSS Business Development resources and accelerates that growth. We are seeking a curious, detail-oriented, and data-savvy intern to conduct environmental scans and support the growth of LSS services.

The Business Development Market Research Intern will inform and have exposure to decision-making at a high level at LSS. This is an excellent opportunity to network, learn about nonprofit functions and positions and build demonstrable skills in market research.

This stipend eligible position requires a 4-6-month commitment for 6-8 hours a week, and includes a $300/month stipend.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct market assessments to learn about growth opportunities
  • Compile and synthesize existing research from government reports, census data, needs assessments, financial reports, and other sources
  • Develop research plans in conjunction with Business Development Team
  • Develop reports to communicate findings and share at team meetings, as appropriate

Required Skills

  • High capacity navigating online resources
  • High accountability and reliability
  • Ability to work independently
  • Comfort with making phone calls

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with SharePoint, Excel and PowerPoint

This stipend eligible internship is a good fit for students majoring in Communications, Marketing, Finance, Business Administration, or Public and Nonprofit Management.

Position Details

Commitment

6-8 hours per week for 4-6 months

Requirements

  • Use of a personal computer and phone
  • Comfort working remotely and regularly using Microsoft Teams
  • Commit to 6-8 hours per week for 4-6 months
  • Availability for at least one hour during regular business hours (M-F, 9-5) during the week. Hours are flexible, but supervisory meetings will need to occur during business hours.
  • Be over the age of 18
  • Submit to a criminal background check
