Jodi Harpstead became the Chief Executive Officer of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS) on September 2, 2011.
On July 1, 2012, LSS assumed management of operations at Children's Home Society of Minnesota, making Jodi also CEO of Children's Home and uniting their two adoption services. The two combine a rich tradition, passion and common mission to find loving families for children who need them.
From May 2007 to September 2011, Jodi was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS), where she led efforts in Services, Human Resources, Information Technology and Finance. With more than 2,300 employees, LSS offers a broad array of community services for people of all ages throughout Minnesota, including housing and crisis shelters, mental health counseling, adoption, financial counseling, senior nutrition, foster care and services for persons with disabilities.
Ask Jodi why she believes LSS is so successful in sustaining a rich tradition of support for people in need and she’ll say, “We work with compassion and competence. First we need the compassion to serve the neighbor, and to be with them through whatever they are struggling or walking through. Then we need to have the competence to make a difference, so that our clients' lives are enhanced by walking with us in a way that makes a difference.”
A native of the Chicago area, Jodi received a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University in East Lansing before settling in Minnesota. Jodi first came to LSS in 2004 to serve as its Chief Advancement Officer as LSS was kicking off its Movement of Hope capital campaign. The transformational Center for Changing Lives was the result, opening its doors in 2009. "The Center embodies so much of who LSS is. It is centered in a neighborhood and dedicated to serving the neighbor, serving with partners and dedicated to an outcome: changing lives.” LSS also opened a Center for Changing Lives in Duluth and is working on a county-wide initiative to end youth homelessness.
Prior to joining LSS, Jodi spent 23 years with Medtronic, Inc. where she held several key positions, including president of Global Marketing and U.S. Sales in the Cardiac Rhythm Management Division and vice president and general manager of Cardiac Surgery Technologies. An exceptional leader and staff developer, Jodi helped to grow revenue in a variety of capacities at the pioneering medical device organization.
Jodi currently serves on the Board of Directors for Lutheran Services in America and the Association of Residential Resources in Minnesota (ARRM). She served on the Board of Regents for Augsburg University in Minneapolis with one term as Chair. She formerly served on the Delta Dental of Minnesota Board of Directors and the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Mutual Funds Board. Jodi and her husband, Stan, live in Arden Hills, MN and have two grown children.
