Joyce Norals has provided strategic direction for Human Resources at LSS since joining LSS in July, 2000. In her role she oversees staffing, compensation and benefits, organizational development and training, and employee relations for the organization and its 2,300 employees statewide.
Joyce is inspired by what she experiences daily. "You realize that employees stay at LSS because they have come to care about the people they work with – whether client or colleague. They care about the community in which they serve. There is such compassion and zeal around pursuing social justice for others,” she says.
A native of Chicago – the city of her heart – Joyce received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyala University and a Master of Arts in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Joyce spent an extended period of her career with the Canadian Pacific Railroad where she served as Director of Personnel, managing human resources for their U.S. operations and its 5,500 employees. She has also served in human resource management for Honeywell's Commercial Aviation Systems Division.
Joyce is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and Twin Cities Human Resources Association. She is certified in Organizational Development by the National Training Institute in Bethel, Maine, and in Change Management from the Institute of Practitioners of Change in Calgary, Alberta. In 2009, Joyce was recognized by the Catholic Spirit of the Archdiocese of Minneapolis and St. Paul with a Leading with Faith Award, and is an alumna of the Shannon Institute with the Wilder Foundation.
