About LSS Youth Services

Our Young People 1

Every night more than 2,500 young people in Minnesota have no place to call home.

Even more are at-risk of becoming homeless.

Youth experiencing homelessness are invisible to most of us with problems far beyond their years. The majority of them are not runaways or “homeless by choice.” They come from a wide range of situations.

Without the guidance of a trusted adult to walk with them through critical decisions, the problems they face can manifest themselves in areas of deep personal and community concern including: dropping out of school, unemployment, homelessness, mental health and chemical dependency issues, sex trafficking and even suicide.

Lutheran Social Service (LSS) helps thousands of young people every year, providing them with the support and resources they need to launch into a productive, healthy and independent life.

Calling for a new approach to early prevention and intervention, LSS aims to provide the continuum of care needed in the community to reach young people and their families and provide services that will strengthen families and focus on student achievement and community engagement to reduce the risk of youth homelessness.

LSS Youth, Housing and Family Resources has been expanding its services for homeless and at-risk youth in communities across Minnesota: Rochester, Willmar, Mankato, Brainerd, Duluth, The Iron Range (Virginia and Cloquet) and the Twin Cities Metro Area
