LSS Senior Companion
Program - Senior Companion In-Homes Volunteer
Population Served: Seniors and other adults who
live in their own homes but require a minimum amount of
assistance, companionship and support from program volunteers
to remain independent.
Type
of Opportunity: Provide assistance, companionship,
support and advocacy to seniors and other adults in the
community. Successful Senior Companion Volunteers possess
compassion, patience, flexibility and respect for others. A
non-taxable stipend, mileage reimbursement and other benefits
are available to program volunteers.
Opportunity Description:
Senior Companion In-Homes Volunteers:
- Provide a stable and
regular presence.
- Listen and offer
encouragement.
- Assist with personal
errands, grocery shopping, correspondence, recreational
activities, etc.
- Visit people who might
otherwise be isolated.
- Act as a resource advocate
between those they visit and the community.
Time
Commitment:
Ongoing, 15 - 20 hours each
week.
