Senior Companion -
LSS Senior Companion Program
Population Served: Seniors and other adults who
live in their own residences but require assistance,
companionship and support from volunteers to remain
independent.
Type
of Opportunity: Provide assistance, companionship,
support, advocacy and respite to seniors and other adults in
the community. A tax-free stipend, mileage reimbursement and
other benefits are available to program volunteers.
Opportunity Description:
- Provide a stable and caring
presence
- Listen and offer
encouragement and support
- Assist with personal
errands, grocery shopping, medical appointments
correspondence, recreational activities, etc..
- Visit people who might
otherwise be isolated
- Act as a resource advocate
- Provide respite services for
caregivers
Time
Commitment:
Ongoing, 15-20 hours a
week
