Refugee Mentor - LSS Refugee and Employment Programs

Population Served: Newly-arrived refugees

Type of Opportunity: Individual

Opportunity Description: Come and be a friend and guide for a refugee during the challenging first months of living in a new culture. Consider helping our clients to:

  • Help family members learn the English language.
  • Take a tour around the Twin Cities.
  • Help out with a job application or practice interview skills.
  • Take the children to a park to give the parent’s a break
  • Call on a landlord who might be taking advantage of the refugee tenant
  • Find out answers to questions about confusing bills/letters.
  • Invite the refugee family out for lunch, or to meet your own family/friends.
  • Teach a refugee how to make minor household repairs.
  • Assist a refugee child in registering for school.

Time Commitment: 3 times per month. Flexible according to mentor’s and refugee’s schedule.
