P.E.E.R. Tutor - LSS Refugee and Employment Programs
(Partnerships Enabling Employment for Refugees)
Population Served: Newly-arrived refugees
Type
of Opportunity: Empower a refugee by assisting them
to become work-ready in the United States.
Opportunity Description: Self-sufficiency is the
main goal of the Refugee and Employment Program staff. Many
times, work culture in the U.S. is very different from what a
newly-arrived refugee may be familiar with. P.E.E.R. tutors
help with such things as:
- Teaching refugees the
correct way to fill out job applications
- Aiding in job searching
- Practicing interviewing
skills
- Informing refugees about
cultural aspects to job searching that may not be apparent
to a newcomer
Time
Commitment:
Tutors are asked to
complete one session of the P.E.E.R Employment Workshops.
There are multiple scheduling options for P.E.E.R Employment
workshops. Workshops occur weekdays for approximately 3-hour
sessions.
