LSS Safe House

Can you imagine being a homeless teen and trying to survive outside in this chilly Minnesota weather?

Concerned about the dangerous weather, the LSS Safe House in St. Paul is reopening to help youth with emergency shelter, safety, meals and counseling support. The LSS Safe House closed in August 2003 when state budget cuts produced a $200,000 deficit in the program's budget.

On any given night in Minnesota, an estimated 660 unaccompanied youth (17 or younger) are without permanent shelter. In a year's time, an estimated 10,000 unaccompanied youth experience at least one episode of homelessness in Minnesota.

Help Support Homeless Youth!
With new funding from Ramsey County, Lutheran Social Service has secured about half of the funding needed to stay open through 2004. LSS is stepping out in faith, trusting that the community will respond with an additional $150,000 to keep the doors open. Can you help?

The LSS Safe House is one of the few services in the Twin Cities where young people can find assistance with shelter, basic needs, advocacy and referral to other services to meet longer-term needs.

Thanks for your support!
