Respite
workers for the LSS Caregiver Support and Respite Program
are carefully chosen after undergoing an interview process
and background
check. They then attend eight hours of classroom training on
the following subjects:
After this
initial training, the respite worker accompanies the
regional coordinator to the home of the caregiver for
introductions and a short visit. If the caregiver and LSS
staff both feel that it's a good match, a respite schedule
is developed. Directions
to the Respite Worker regarding care for the individual are
provided by the caregiver.
Respite
workers provide in-home, non-medical, companionship. The
goal is to make sure the care receiver is safe and occupied
while the family caregiver takes a break.
