LSS Refugee Services:
Matching Grant Program
The Matching Grant program is an employment program for refugees who have been in the United States for less than four months. The program is also open to individuals who have recently been approved for asylum. The goal of the program is to enable clients to become self-sufficient through employment while diverting them away from accessing public assistance. The program pays clients a stipend while they search for work.
The Matching Grant program relies on contributions from the community. For each $1 or in-kind assistance donated to the program, the Federal government provides a match of $2. As membership in the program increases, there are more and more opportunities to become involved. Correspondingly, as individuals contribute volunteer hours and other assistance, the program’s budget increases. With these increases, LSS Refugee Services is able to better meet the needs of the clients.
The Matching Grant program provides the following services:
- Employment orientation
- Employment workshop training
- Job search, job placement, and job retention
- Bonuses and gift cards
- Bus passes
- Cash assistance
- Tuition assistance for short training sessions
