Immigration Services
Lutheran Social Service: Refugee Services offers Family Savings Accounts (FSA’s) for refugees and asylees who have been in the US for 5 years or less. This initiative, undertaken through Faith in the City, is a collaborative partisanship of seven major Lutheran organizations. With a Family Savings Account (FSA), a participant who saves $1 will receive a match of $4. A maximum of $1000 may be saved, leading to a total of $5000 after the match. Participants are required to save at least $25 a month for a minimum of 6 months to receive the match.
Participants will be able to use their savings in one of three ways
- Pay any financial obligations due to first-time homeownership
- Start or expand a small business
- Finance their own, or their children’s, education
Participants will receive the additional assistance:
- 12 hours of financial education training
- Budgeting and financial planning
- Starting or improving credit history
- 8 hours of asset specific training
