Knutson Update:
Over 1,000 campers enjoyed the completely-rebuilt camp
in 2004
Since the "Rebuilding for Good"
project began in 1998, Camp Knutson has been completely re-built. Every
single existing building has been totally renovated and sports the "up
north" look of cedar/log siding with green trim paint. This year the camp
was totally completed with the addition of a new nature center, bicycle
repair shop and garage spaces. "After five years, construction is complete,"
smiled Rob Larson, camp director.
The camp, which serves children
with special needs and their families, was host to over 1,000 campers this
season, with every camping week filled with different groups. These groups
included children with Autism, down Syndrome, Heart Diseases, Skin Diseases
as well as families of children with deafness and hearing handicaps as well
as persons infected with HIV/AIDS.
In the off-season, Camp Knutson
is used as a retreat center for church and school groups as well as
non-profit organizations.
The "Friends of Camp Knutson"
assure the ongoing health of the camp through their volunteerism and yearly
financial support of the camp.
