Thanks, Ted Contag!

Ted Contag, Senior Financial Planner at the Hopkins office of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, enthuses when he explains how he has helped people have more money - and, at the same time, give away more money -- than they ever thought possible. His track record is impressive.

Many of Ted's clients, all members of Thrivent Financial, seek his advice in creating financial plans, in planning for their retirement and in establishing their end-of-life philanthropy. He says that many clients are surprised to learn of innovative ways that they can leave large bequests to their families as well as to organizations whose work they support.

"People who have children want to make sure that the children and grandchildren are remembered," Ted explained, "but often they have the potential to give substantial amounts of their assets to benefit their community and organizations they respect. More often than not, they can achieve both objectives."

Mary Ella Pratte, an LSS major gifts officer, said that Ted has become an important part of LSS' philanthropic network.

"When people want to set aside funds to support programs for youth and families, for seniors or for people with disabilities, Ted will often suggest that they consider Lutheran Social Service," Mary Ella said. "He knows our services and can recommend them from first-hand knowledge. His clients appreciate the home work he has completed, and the value of his suggestions."

After the referral is made, then it's up to the LSS staff to share information about LSS with the prospective donors. If they find that their donations will make a difference in people's lives, they welcome the opportunity to be of help and, in so doing, demonstrate their values. "Often, Ted shows them how to make their philanthropy bigger than they ever imagined," Mary Ella admired.
