Scottish
Rite Helps All, Regardless of Ability to Pay
Like most other LSS donors,
Leslie and Carl Nelson support other organizations, in addition to LSS and
their church. Carl is a Mason and member of the Scottish Rite. In April,
Carl and Leslie visited the LSS office on Como Avenue to share their
enthusiasm for a new childhood language disorders clinic that the Scottish
Rite will be opening in Elk River this summer. You may ask: Why is this of
interest to LSS?
The Nelsons wanted to make
sure that LSS staff and the entire LSS network knew of this new community
resource that will be available to all children, regardless of a family's
ability to pay. The clinic is supported entirely by donations from Masons,
friends and grateful families. It is located at 11090 183rd Circle NW, Elk
River.
"LSS' mission, to express the
love of Christ for all people through acts of service, is so close to the
all-inclusive mission of our clinics," Carl said, "that I wanted to make
sure that LSS staff and the community knew of this new Elk River clinic.
It's there for all families who have children with speech-language
disorders."
The new clinic, scheduled to
open this summer, was made possible largely through a gift from Marafie
Foundation USA. Mr. and Mrs. Amir Marafie, survivors of the 1990 invasion
of Kuwait, now live in Bloomington. The Scottish Rite's major
philanthropic outreach includes more than 200 other speech-language
disorders clinics nationwide.
