LSS Volunteer Coordinators Invent Game

Question: How do you attract the attention of prospective volunteers who are attending a volunteer fair?
Answer: Get them involved in a game.
Question: What if you don't have a game?
Answer: Invent one.

That's exactly what Paris Dunning and Shelby Aslesen did as they prepared to participate in the Volunteer Resource Center's 85th Anniversary Fair, held in Minneapolis in early May. Those who attended the event were young people, future leaders and change agents in the community. Approximately 150 people played the game. Each player received a pen and a magnet, and they got to keep their game card, a reminder of the web site address and what types of volunteer opportunities are available at LSS.

The name of their game: Will Fortune Smile on You?

The object of the game: Raise awareness of the services LSS provides, ways members of the community can get involved by volunteering, and how to find information on the LSS web site.
