140th Anniversary
Celebrations Begin
The kickoff
event to LSS' 140th Anniversary was an open house for Board Members,
donors and other LSS supporters on April 19.
The LSS
Centuries of Service event, held at the State Center, on April 19,
welcomed 115 guests, including donors and LSS Board, Foundation Board and
committee members. Guests took a historical tour to look at 140 years of
service to Minnesota communities by LSS and its predecessor organizations.
The "time
travelers" viewed the newly-created, 140-year LSS timeline, observed
historic photos and press clippings, and visited with presenters in each
of the following service areas: Frank Trananese, Vasa; Richard Smith,
Adoption; Patti Hurd, Refugee Services; Sara Hartgraves, Home and
Community Living; Rob Larson, Camp Knutson; Alice Smith, Senior Services;
Joel Salzer, Housing; Alan Loose, Office of Cooperative Ministries; Molly
Schwanz, Karibu House; and Debra Martin-Schloer, Counseling.
The journey
continued with a viewing of the new LSS History video. The last stop on
the tour was a presentation by Paul Daniels, curator at Luther Seminary,
who gave the travelers a look at Lutheran immigrant life in the early days
of Minnesota's statehood.
