Lutheran
Night at the Twins - August 3, 2005
Going to Bat for Homeless Kids
When Lutheran fans attend the
Minnesota Twins vs. the Oakland Athletics game on August 3, 2005, they
will also be going to bat for homeless kids.
With each ticket sold through
Lutheran churches, a one-dollar contribution will be made to homeless kids
programs at Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS). Our great friends
in the Metro Office of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will be matching
those contributions so that they will reach further, providing further
help to homeless kids, who are living on the streets.
On any given night in
Minnesota, 2,800 children and teens are homeless. They sleep in cars,
abandoned buildings - anywhere they can find shelter. Without a home,
there is little hope. With your donation to Lutheran Social Service of
Minnesota, there is hope. LSS brings safety, shelter, and emotional
well-being to homeless youth.
Last year, about $130,000 was
raised for homeless young people through the efforts that surrounded
Lutheran Night at the Twins. That goes a long way, and we are extremely
grateful to the Lutherans who attended the game, other Twins fans,
churches and donors for their special gifts - and to Thrivent Financial
for matching them all. The gift match runs through Aug. 31.
If your congregation has a
Lutheran Night baseball group, join them on Aug. 3. No group? Organize
one. Can't make it that night? Please support the effort with a
contribution. All information is easily available at
