Workshop Offers
Legal, Financial
Guidance for Families
Caring for Loved
Ones with Special
Needs
BROOKLYN PARK, Minn.
(April 10, 2002) -Did you know that one family in 14 faces the prospect of
planning for the future of a disabled child or adult?
Lutheran Social Service
of Minnesota (LSS) will be offering a free workshop to help these families
consider important legal, financial and quality-of-life issues for their
loved ones. The workshop will help families answer questions like, "How
can I secure public benefits without having to impoverish my loved one?"
Or, "What plans need to be made if my disabled child outlives me?"
The two-hour
workshop will be held at 12:00 Noon and at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1
at Brooklyn Park Lutheran Church, 1400 81st Avenue North in Brooklyn Park.
Special guest speaker
will be Mark Anderson, an attorney and LSS Development Associate, who will
address topics such as financial planning, guardianship arrangements, use
of public benefits, and special needs trusts to help families create the
best plans possible for their loved ones. "With proper planning, it is
possible to provide for a future that permits these individuals to live in
safety, with dignity, and in a supportive community," Anderson said.
