Community Invited
to Participate in Long-Term Recovery Planning
People of Good Spirit, a
newly-named ecumenical group that has been meeting for several weeks to
develop programs for long-term recovery following the Red Lake tragedy,
invites members of the community to share their thoughts and ideas for
next steps on Thursday, April 28 at 6 p.m. at Bemidji United Methodist
Church, 9th and Beltrami.
Dr. James Gambone, an expert
in multi-cultural understanding and intergenerational programs, will be
working as a consultant with People of Good Spirit, along with Tom Davis
with Church World Service who has expertise in planning for long-term
recovery. All are welcome to participate.
People of Good Spirit
consists of clergy and community residents from Lutheran, Episcopal,
United Methodist, and Catholic congregations, the Native American
community and Lutheran Social Service/Lutheran Disaster Response of
Minnesota. Since the Red Lake incident, People of Good Spirit has offered
several community workshops to help local residents understand trauma,
learn how to deal effectively with emotions and offer sensitive support to
others.
