November is National Adoption Month
November is National
Adoption Month. Lutheran Social Service is holding three different
meetings and events in November for families who have adopted children, as
well as for others who are interested in adoption:
Saturday, November 4,
1:00 to 4:00 p.m., LSS Minneapolis Office, 2414 Park Avenue: As part
of the Homecoming Project, LSS is holding a special information meeting
and panel on Special Needs Adoption. You’ll hear from children with
special needs who have been adopted by families, and others who are still
waiting for a place to call home. In Minnesota alone, there are hundreds
of children with special needs who are waiting to be adopted. These
children are wards of the State of Minnesota, typically older than 6 years
old, and may have special physical and/or mental challenges related to the
difficult situations they have faced. In Minnesota, these programs usually
incur no fees for adoptive families. More Info: 612/879-5289.
Sunday, November 12, Noon
to 2 p.m., LSS, 2485 Como Avenue, St. Paul: LSS will host a gathering
for families who have adopted children through the organization, or are in
the adoption process. The event is designed to reconnect people who have
adopted children through LSS, and be an inspiration to others who are
considering adoption, or are in the process of adopting. A new collection
of stories, written by adoptive families and children, will also be given
to attendees. Come and meet other adoptive families, enjoy a hamburger on
the grill, and watch the Vikings beat the Packers at this fun event. More

Tuesday, November 14,
6:30 p.m. LSS Minneapolis Office, 2414 Park Avenue: LSS is holding a
special information fair called “A Passport to International Adoption,”
and will include highlights about LSS’ new program in Vietnam. Attendees
will learn how to navigate the process of adoption in various countries,
such as Colombia, Guatemala, Ukraine, Vietnam, China, Poland, Russia, and
others. There will also be an opportunity to visit with families who have
traveled to various countries to adopt their children. More Info:
