Happy Direct Support Professional Appreciation Week!

 DSP Week 2017

The Direct Support Workforce is currently made up of over 3.6 million workers and the demand for workers is only expected to increase as more individuals with disabilities choose community based living options.

This September 10 – 16 is set aside to express special gratitude for the necessary and vital contributions of all Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). DSPs offer encouragement as people build skills in things like:

  • bathing
  • personal hygiene
  • preparing meals safely
  • holding a job
  • managing money

Thanks to DSPs, people with disabilities have access to the transportation they need to participate in community activities. Most importantly, DSPs help people with disabilities build community connections and relationships.

This week, it’s especially important to recognize and give thanks for the heartfelt work of DSPs. When they clock in for work, DSPs enter into people’s homes and into their lives. Tireless devotion to their jobs makes certain that people with disabilities can live full and rewarding lives as independently as possible.

PICS thanks all of our wonderful DSPs for the work they do every day!
