About Us
LSS Housing Services has a rich
history of providing support and assistance to adults and families in
need. We give dignity and respect to everyone we serve, regardless of
their immediate situation.
According to Heading Home Hennepin: The
10 Year Plan to End Homelessness in Minneapolis and Hennepin County,*
“The most critical issue facing all people experiencing homelessness is
the lack of safe and stable housing.” The plan proposes developing new
housing opportunities. These opportunities could include both production
of new units and access to units in the existing market. Through
supportive housing [link] programs, affordable housing is linked with
services that help people live more stable, productive lives. These
programs can be either project-based [Journey Homes] or scattered-site
housing [It’s All About the Kids,
Rental Subsidy Program,
Family Roots Alliance].
LSS Supportive Housing Programs assist in
the development of housing opportunities, which is one of the eight goals
in the 10 Year Plan. The It’s All About the Kids Collaborative,
Rental Subsidy Program, and Family Roots Alliance are three LSS housing
programs that meet a portion of the unmet affordable housing need by
providing rental subsidy vouchers for families. With rental subsidies,
previously unaffordable housing becomes affordable. Our permanent
supportive housing program, Journey Homes, provides 12 units of project
based Section 8.
In addition to providing a variety of
affordable housing options for families, we offer services to assist them
in maintaining their housing. According to the National Alliance to End
Homelessness’s study, Family Homelessness In Our Nation And
Community: A Problem With A Solution:
“For those families for whom affordable
housing, alone, is not sufficient, more intensive services are necessary
to help them stay stably housed. Housing models such as permanent
supportive housing and service-enriched housing combine housing and
services so that families can maximize their potential.”
All LSS Supportive Housing programs follow
the “Housing First” philosophy of getting families out of homelessness as
quickly as possible and into safe, affordable housing, then providing
supportive services so families can maintain that housing.
