GetLifted for Individuals


GetLifted Balloon

Individuals who are selected to participate in the GetLifted initiative will be designated as ‘Community Financial Ambassadors’ (CFAs).

You will be provided with practical financial tools and resources, and learn great ways to share this knowledge with others in their community. You will pass along their financial wellness to other community members in informal settings. Applicants should empathize and show respect to all people in all situations, and be willing to commit their time to ensure success. No prior financial experience is needed – novices welcome!

60 total CFAs will be selected: 18 as individual applicants, 42 as organizational nominees.

Financial Education Training

Individuals will receive financial education training to share with their community. This will include all four aspects of real-life financial issues individuals and families face:

  1. Budgeting in a way that can create savings;
  2. Reducing debt and building assets;
  3. Building a good credit score; and
  4. Protecting consumers from scams and identity theft.

If community members have more in-depth financial questions throughout this process, LSS Financial Counseling staff will provide resources and referrals to assist.

Commitment and Timeline

GetLifted begins with application in June and July of 2017 and ends with an awards event and celebration in August of 2018. CFAs will receive support from LSS and/or their nominating organization as they try and learn new things.

Expectations of CFAs

  • Attend one of three possible two-day financial education workshops
  • Share your knowledge with at least 35-50 others through community events designed by you
  • Submit a plan and budget to receive funding for these events
  • Ensure evaluation materials are collected and submitted for each person you reach
  • Attend a celebration and awards event where prizes will be awarded for outcomes, impact, and innovation.

CFA Payment Schedule

  • Financial Education training - $1,000
  • Submit event plan and budget - $500
  • Host events - $1,500
  • Attend Awards Event and Celebration - $500

Note: Stipends are considered taxable income. All individuals selected as GetLifted CFAs will be required to fill out a W-9, and provide their Social Security Number, Individual Tax Identification Number or Employer Identification Number for payment. Please consult a tax professional if you have any questions.

Application Process

  • Applications will be accepted from June 19th – July 21st 2017.
  • The GetLifted committee will meet in late July to select individual CFAs.
  • All applicants will be notified of their status by August 1st, 2017.
  • CFAs will be selected based on their application only.
