Stories of Success
- Meagan
Meagan was 10 years old when she was first placed in foster
care. Meagan’s parents had alcohol addiction problems that made
them unable to properly care for their young daughter.
Eventually the family’s rights were terminated.
For the next 3 years Meagan
transitioned in and out of several foster homes changing schools
several times as well. At the age of 14 Meagan was placed in an
LSS Treatment Foster Home.
After being placed in several
homes in a short period of time it was difficult for Meagan to
connect and trust her new foster family. For several months she
was defiant and was having a hard time in yet another new
school.
Through many months of working
with LSS staff in collaboration with the foster family, Meagan
began to trust and to connect with the family. Meagan began to
get involved in school activities and her grades also improved.
Meagan lived with the family
until she graduated from high school and then entered college.
Meagan often says of her experience, “I never unpacked my
suitcase until I arrived at my LSS foster family’s home.”
