About the MFIP program

The Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) is Minnesota’s federally funded welfare reform program for low-income families with children. MFIP provides cash, food, health care and child care assistance. When most families apply for MFIP assistance, they must first participate in the Diversionary Work Program (DWP) for four months. If participants are unable to find employment while in the DWP, they are referred to an MFIP employment services provider, such as LSS.
