LSS FINANCIAL COUNSELING SERVICE
A CONSUMER CREDIT COUNSELING SERVICE PROGRAM

About Us

Our History
LSS Financial Counseling Service has offered credit counseling services since 1987 and is one of the largest providers of full-service, community-based financial counseling in Minnesota. Our financial counselors are trained to work with all people, including those who are facing financial crisis. We have offices statewide and also serve the country by phone and online counseling services.

The mission of LSS Financial Counseling Service is to:

"Help people achieve financial peace of mind through full-service, thoughtful, and trustworthy counseling and education. We will accomplish this through a commitment to ongoing financial counseling, education, public advocacy, and client service excellence."

An Accredited Agency
LSS Financial Counseling is a member agency (CCCS) of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, a member of Better Business Bureau, is licensed by the Minnesota Department of Commerce, and accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services. All information you provide us remains confidential and will be used only to serve you.

Certified Financial Counselors
All of our counselors have passed tests to become Certified Consumer Credit Counselors through the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. In addition, our counseling staff includes certifications in housing counseling, foreclosure prevention, and reverse mortgage counseling.

How is LSS Financial Counseling Service Funded?
Our funding comes from charitable and corporate grants, client fees for some services, and contributions from creditors who participate in our Debt Management Plans (DMP). Because creditors have a financial interest in getting paid, most are willing to make a contribution to help fund our service. These contributions are usually calculated as a percentage of payments you make through your DMP. However, your accounts with creditors will always be credited with one hundred percent of the amount you pay through us. We will work also with all your creditors regardless of whether they contribute to our service.
