The responsibility of the Correctional Counselor IV is to provide a safe, secure, consistent environment, to implement and monitor program components and procedures relating to House rules and to assist in maximizing resident participation in recreational, social, and therapeutic activities. Major Responsibilities/Activities: • Maintain order and security in the house by monitoring residents, screening visitors and enforcing regulations • Account for all residents by performing headcounts, phone check in, keeping sign in/out book records and having knowledge of residents’ whereabouts. Identify residents whereabouts at the beginning of each shift • Provide crisis intervention when necessary • Remind residents of routine expectations related to sobriety, household duties, personal hygiene, accountability, and program participation. • Assist residents in understanding consequences of poor decision making and encourage positive decisions. • Answer all phone calls, maintain professional and confidential conversations. Log phone information • Log all important events / issues while on duty. Communicate important information with other staff both in writing and verbally regarding resident behaviors, health, location, or other issues.
Minimum requirement is a high school diploma, a BS or BA degree is strongly preferred, or minimum 1-2 year experience in a related field. Must have computer knowledge, good verbal communication skills, professional boundaries, day to day problem solving skills, and experience in crisis management. Current certification in First Aid and CPR are mandatory (may be obtained after employment start date). Applicant must have the ability to identify and resolve/de-escalate minor conflicts by continuous observation and early intervention. Have an understanding of mental and physical illnesses, and ability to gain knowledge of each resident with information that is provided. Must be able to cope with high stress situations and possible emotional abuse from residents while maintaining control of the situation and making appropriate decisions. Follow all HIPPA regulations. Must demonstrate reliability and integrity.

Address any situation that may arise: thereby ensuring a safe and secure environment. Provide direction, supervision and support to BISS, BISSlead, LPN over three programs. Supervise 3 programs that have 4 indiviuals with brain injuries, per program. These people have complex conditions secondary to sustaining brain injuries. One of the programs (Transitions) have a frequent turnover of individuals due to the transitional nature of the program. These are AFC programs.
The qualified applicant must be Certified Brain Injury Specialist in good standing with American Academy for the Certification of Brain Injury Specialists (AACBIS) or ability to qualify for AACBIS certification.
Driver’s license required.Medication administration training, Psychotropic medication administration and documentation training (may be obtained after hire), First Aid training, and CPR Certificate (when required) preferred but may be obtained after hire. Bureau of Criminal Affairs (BCA) clearance is required. Motor Vehicle Check (MVR) with a satisfactory driving record required. Experience and/or training of at least one year with vulnerable populations is required. Experience with Program development is preferred. High school degree or GED with 5 years experience working with the vulnerable populations is required. If an Associate Degree is held in Social work, Psychology or a similar field, 2 years experience is required. If a College degree or Designated Coordinator Certificate is held 1 year of experience is required. CPR certificate, 1st Aid (when required) and Medication Administration course is also required but can be obtained after hire. Working knowledge of the regulations that govern our services.
