Crisis Shelters

LSS Crisis Shelters, owned and operated by Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, provide care for boys and girls ages 0-17 years who are experiencing some form of crisis in their lives. The shelter is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our purpose is to provide for the physical and emotional needs of youth within the framework of a safe, residential environment.

Our staff is fully trained to work with children. The program emphasizes the importance of responsible behavior, healthy relationships, and the reality of each individual’s situation. Through the structure of our daily schedule, residents are taught responsibility in various areas, including social skills and independent living skills.

What We Do
LSS Crisis Shelter provide for children in crisis by offering short-term, emergency shelter-care. Emergency foster-care homes are also available for children in need of a family setting.

Our Services Include:

  • Supervised Daily Living stressing social and independent living skills.
  • Homebound Education targeted to meet the academic needs of children who are either unable to function appropriately in a mainstream school environment or who are from an area outside the local school district.
  • Recreational programming designed to expose the children to various individual and group activities, ranging from arts and crafts to team sports and community cultural events.
  • Weekly discussion groups designed to introduce topics of information or concern in a confidential and caring manner.
  • Individual counseling available as needed or requested, focusing on conflict resolution and problem-solving.
  • Transportation to and from appointments for duration of stay.
