Play Therapy for Young Children

Like adults, children have big worries, too. Loss of a loved one, low self-esteem, an alcoholic parent or divorce in the family are all common issues that many kids struggle with. Because children do not have the words to explain what is troubling them, professional child therapists help them sort out issues through play. Puppets, clay, drawings, dollhouses, and other toys are all effective methods that child therapists use with children.

Some warning signs in young children:

  • Unable to separate from parents

  • Anxious or fearful

  • Withdrawal and lack of interest in activities

  • Aggressive behavior

  • Refusal to comply with rules and expectations

If your child could benefit from counseling support, we can help. For more information, or to set up an appointment with a licensed professional child therapist, call LSS Counseling and Family Resources, 1-888-881-8261.
