Individual, Family and Relationship Counseling

Mary Jo provides individual, couple and family counseling for children, adolescents and adults in both clinic and in-home settings.

Areas of specialization:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Couple and family relationships
  • Domestic violence
  • Abuse and trauma recovery

Mary Jo provides a safe and supportive forum to address issues and to celebrate strengths and establish positive self-regard.

Mary Jo’s orientation to counseling is based strongly in psychodynamic and family systems therapy principles as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques. Accordingly, she will assist clients in gaining insight regarding their concerns, frequently in the context of their past and present relationships, while also promoting healthy cognitive patterns and behavioral changes. Shame, which involves feelings of inadequacy, worthlessness and inappropriate guilt, is a frequent element which contributes to self-destructive behaviors such as eating concerns, abuse of substances and poor self-care. Issues of shame are addressed in counseling.

Mary Jo has 13 years experience and is a licensed mental health professional. Mary Jo gained her Master's Degree in Community Counseling from St. Cloud State University. Her life experiences include serving in the U.S. Navy, marriage and parenting four children to adulthood.
