Family Systems Therapy

Family Systems Therapy is a specialized form of therapy designed to address complex problems or problems that seem resistant to change. Family Systems Therapy is often the treatment of choice when families experience problems in managing the changes in their lives.

Family Systems Therapy includes:

  • Therapy sessions that involve many or all family members, including extended family.

  • A supportive and directive structure designed to lessen the nervousness which family members may have about therapy.

  • Therapists who assume that no one is to blame and that each family member is doing his/her best at the moment.

  • A focus on changing unhelpful patterns of communication so that relationships improve.

  • Therapy sessions which are often scheduled at longer intervals (3-4 weeks), rather than the more traditional weekly scheduling.

  • Closely coordinated services with other health providers involved, such as a psychiatrist, social worker, school personnel, etc.

While no therapy method guarantees results, Family Systems Therapy can help bring about successful and permanent improvements for the family.

Family Systems Therapy is offered primarily out of our Mankato area counseling office, including satellites in Albert Lea, Faribault, New Ulm, Northfield, Owatonna, and Waseca. For more information, call 507-625-7660, x221 or 1-888-881-8261.
