Services
Lutheran Social
Service of Minnesota, since our founding in 1865, has always
been focused on working with Lutheran congregations to serve
others in our state. However, there are instances when LSS
services may be particularly helpful to members of congregations
throughout the state.
Financial Counseling
LSS Financial Counseling serves people in financial need to
achieve stability. A certified counselor will sit down with an
individual or couple and look over budgets and debt. This first
hour session is free to everyone and, if it is determined that
further resources or counseling is needed or desired, people can
receive additional help with budget counseling, debt consolidation,
foreclosure prevention, bankruptcy counseling and many other
services. These services are also available over the internet
and telephone.
Individual and Family Counseling
LSS Counseling and Family Resources offers a full range of
mental health services to people facing a variety of challenges
and issues in their lives. Some of these include marital
problems, depression, anxiety and stress.
Disaster Planning
LSS is the designated coordinating organization in Minnesota for
Lutheran Disaster Response. Staff will assist congregations to
prepare their own disaster plan in case of a flu pandemic or
other disaster. LSS/LDR also seeks to coordinate the resources
of Lutheran congregations to serve other Minnesotans who have
been affected by disasters as well as provide support for
others nationally and around the world who are touched by
disaster.
Adoption
Lutheran Social Service Adoption Services have placed children
and helped to form families in each of the past three centuries. LSS facilitates both domestic and international adoption, in
addition to pregnancy counseling, birth parent services and
post-adoption services.
Lutheran Social
Service provides renowned services in many other areas where we
continue to seek the support and involvement of congregations as
we serve vulnerable people throughout the state. Links to
further information about these services, ranging from homeless
youth programs to services to people with disabilities, are
