Partnerships
Congregations partner with Lutheran Social
Service in many ways. Some examples of these are listed here. We
invite a conversation with your congregation or social ministry
group to identify a service ministry for
which your church has a unique passion.
Journey Homes
This is a permanent supportive housing service for families who
are homeless and where the head of household has a documented
disability. This is a true collaboration of LSS Services,
including Housing Services, Counseling and Youth and Family
Resources which have partnered to provide support to families
and children as they become more stable and achieve success.
Bethlehem Lutheran of Minneapolis is a key
partner in this endeavor. In addition to a significant financial
contribution, members are involved in volunteer opportunities
and make donations to the families served in this program.
Rezek
This short-term housing and independent living skills service
provides homes for up to 12 homeless youth ages 16-20. Youth can
be part of the service for up to two years and pay 30% of their
income to lease one of the apartments.
There are eight metro area congregations
that are partners in this ministry. They provide annual
financial support, hold a "shower" to collect household items
for new residents, and members have the opportunity to be
involved in a range of volunteer opportunities with this and
other LSS Homeless Youth services.
Life Haven
This service provides short-term housing to teenage mothers and
their children who are homeless. This home serves six moms and
their children and provides life skills training and parenting
education for up to a year.
Incarnation Lutheran of Shoreview was a
founding partner of this service. They provide substantial
financial support, and members not only helped to renovate the
home, but they continue to be involved in the young women's
lives by volunteering on an ongoing basis.
