Give
Lutheran Social Service of
Minnesota relies on your financial support to carry out our
mission of service across the state. With more than 100,000
people served every year, you have the ability to make a
significant impact in the lives of people we serve. There
are many ways that you and your congregation can support
these vital service ministries. Please consider which of the
following ways your congregation can support LSS as we work
together to realize our vision that all people have the
opportunity to live in community with dignity, safety and
hope.
Church Budget
Every year, around 800 Lutheran congregations financially
support Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota.
Many of them include a line item for LSS in their yearly
benevolence budget. This provides a strong foundation of
annual support for services to vulnerable people throughout
the state. Please consider including LSS in your
congregation’s budgeting plans for the upcoming year, and
then growing your support over time.
Capital Appeals
Is your congregation planning a capital appeal to pay down
debt, build an addition or construct a new church? Don’t
pass up the opportunity you have to make a powerful impact
on countless lives by including mission support as part of
your capital campaign. Many congregations around the state
are setting a wonderful example for their members about the
importance of stewardship and giving because of the gifts
God has given us.
Special Offerings
Consider dedicating one Sunday during the year to lift up
the service ministries of Lutheran Social Service of
Minnesota and your congregation’s support for our services
throughout the state. Use all, or a portion of, that day’s
offering to supplement your congregation's budgeted support
of LSS.
Special Event Fundraiser
Hold a special event to raise money and highlight the vital
services Lutherans are part of across the state. Some things
to consider are an ice cream social, an annual garage sale
and golf or bowling tournaments. One congregation even has
an annual "buffalo roast"! Whatever you do, make it fun; and
if you have more ideas, let us know so we can share them
with others.
Foundations and Endowments
Congregations with either a foundation or endowment have the
chance to direct some of those resources to LSS services.
Please let us know what information we could provide or
if you wish to
invite a formal proposal from Lutheran Social Service.
In-Kind Collections
Our services are always in need of supplies that help the
people LSS serves. Examples include
school supplies in the fall that we give to kids in our
housing programs, personal hygiene and other basic
items that we give to every refugee we resettle in Minnesota
and cleaning supplies and other
household items that can be used in our group homes for
people with disabilities. There is always a great need and a
wealth of opportunities for your congregation to have
collection drives that will benefit people in your
community.
