The Center for Changing Lives in Minneapolis is on schedule!
Footings and foundation walls have been completed. Steel-beam construction will begin February 1. Interior drywall is ahead in July with landscaping to follow in August.
Plans for audio and video technology in the building are being finalized, and funding recently came through to install improved security streetlights around the building. These streetlights will also add to the historic aesthetic of the new building and the surrounding neighborhood because of their resemblance to the old gas lamps that once lined the streets of Minneapolis. To date, 85 percent of the total goal has been pledged from foundations, corporations and individuals, but $4 million remains to be raised. Construction is on schedule and LSS expects to move into the building just after Thanksgiving this November. The adjacent affordable housing complex, which is being built at the same time, is scheduled to be ready for occupants on September 1.

Construction is underway!
From this new aerial view, you can see lots of activity going on. Workers are well underway with the task of removing mounds of dirt. Before long, 1100-1200 dumptrucks full will be removed to make way for the new foundation of the center. Forms are being set for footings, and if you look closely, you can see the outline of the Center for Changing Lives, especially the Centrum and chapel. Concrete block is expected next week. Stay tuned!

Demolition
is underway
Demolition of the 2414 Park Avenue
building has begun. The process started in early September and will take
3-4 weeks to completely raze the building. The slightly longer-than-usual
time frame is to allow the contractor to remove and separate all
recyclable materials. In fact, as part of obtaining LEED Certification for
the new Center for Changing Lives, we will recycle over 70% of the
building! Once the site is cleared, the contractor will begin excavation
and pouring the foundation, which will happen over the next 2-5 months.
