Here are the many services that will be offered at the new Center for Changing Lives through our many community partners:

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota:
Mark Peterson, President and CEO

  • Adoption and Pregnancy Counseling—Finding loving adoptive families for children here and around the world, and offering support to women who are pregnant and wondering what to do
  • Financial Services—Helping people resolve personal debt, develop good money management skills and gain financial peace of mind
  • Refugee Services—Reuniting family members living in refugee camps and helping them get off to a good start in our community by connecting them to schools, housing, job training, work opportunities and other support
  • Counseling—Offering professional mental health counseling for people of all ages who need help with anxiety and depression, relationships, spiritual concerns, family changes, communication issues and abuse
  • Youth Services—Providing safety, housing, independent living skills, street outreach and counseling support to youth at risk
  • Housing—Offering supportive housing (a concept pioneered by LSS), transitional housing, affordable housing for at-risk families, and drop-in housing information
  • Employment—Through the Minnesota Family Investment Program, LSS provides job placement retention assistance to welfare participants who live in Hennepin County

Faith in the City:
Reverend Deborah K. Hulterer, Executive Director

  • Personal Finance Center—Offers classes in money management, banking and consumer issues, as well as free tax preparation, financial counseling, savings clubs and ATM services
  • Wellness Connection—Promotes wellness and education to help refugees and immigrants maintain good health and learn how to appropriately access the healthcare system

Messiah Lutheran Church:
Rev. Lee Cunningham, Senior Pastor

  • Worship—A worship center and spiritual care contribute to the continued health, hope and well-being of Phillips Neighborhood residents
  • Food Pantry—Provides important food staples to residents of Phillips
  • Suitably Yours—Furnishes business clothing for women returning to the workforce
  • Hopemakers—Offers support, skills to those entering or seeking to move up in the job market

Hennepin County:
Carol Stinar, Hennepin County Office of Planning and Development

  • Park Avenue Apartments—48 new units of housing connected to the Center for Changing Lives to help end homelessness in Minnesota by providing affordable housing with ready access to social services that nurture family wellness and stability

Kaleidoscope:
Quendy Raymond, Executive Director

  • Kaleidoscope—Provides a safe place for children in the Phillips Neighborhood of Minneapolis to meet friends and participate in fun activities during the out-of-school time. Children also receive academic instruction based on Minneapolis Public School standards in a way that is fun and engaging.

Phillips West Neighborhood Organization (PWNO):
Crystal Trutnau, Executive Director

  • PWNO—Provides neighborhood-based planning and priority setting with input from residents and other neighborhood stakeholders that identify and meet their neighborhood's housing, safety, economic development, recreation, health, social service, environment and transportation needs. From increasing the amount of quality housing to improving the environment, building community centers to job creation, Minneapolis residents are creators and catalysts of change, aimed at renewing a sense of common purpose in their community.
