AIDS Information
Duluth
AIDS Information Duluth, a program of
Lutheran Social Service, provides prevention education strategies that
reduce the number of people at risk of HIV. It is the primary source of
HIV/AIDS prevention education in the Duluth area, and is offered free of
charge with generous financial support from a variety of community
foundations and individual donations.
Our Goals:
Through education, outreach and special
initiatives, we empower people to make healthy choices in their lives
that can keep our community free of new HIV infections and prevent
discrimination towards those living with HIV/AIDS.
Education
Each year, we provide over 100 educational
presentations to youth and adults in schools, social service
organizations, and other community groups. In highly-structured
presentations, information is abstinence-based, culturally sensitive,
and age appropriate. Here’s where we have offered our community
presentations:
-
Public and private institutions of learning
-
Youth programs
-
Correctional Facilities
-
Programs for persons who are homeless
-
Halfway houses
-
Shelters and residential programs
-
Programs that serve gay, lesbian, bi-sexual,
and transgender communities
-
Community organizations
Outreach
To prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, our
program also provides outreach to populations at high risk for HIV by
distributing:
Special Initiatives
Our Street Smart Project provides culturally-specific, HIV prevention
programming for runaway, homeless, and street-involved youth. This
intervention involves eight group sessions, an individual session, and a
