Families with children who were adopted from Colombia are encouraged to send periodic updates of letters and photos to Colombia.

You may send your letters and a few photos to LSS at the following address if you would like them included at no cost in our next available package to Colombia. (no specific timeframe for delivery available with this method).

If you are sending packages (including photo albums) or items other than letters and loose photos or if you have time sensitive materials, you should send them directly to Colombia.
Please note: the postal service in Colombia is not as reliable as in the United States. We recommend you send your documentation via a registered service (i.e. DHL, FedEx, etc.).

Information on Searching for Colombian Birth Parents By Colombian law, adoptees must be 18 years of age or older to initiate a search for their birth family.

Steps to Begin the Search Process

  1. Compose a letter to the Director of the Orphanage you were adopted through stating the request to complete a birth family search. Include the following in a letter:
    1. Birth name
    2. Current legal name
    3. Birth Date
    4. Request to search for the birth family
    5. Any identifying information you have about your birth family to assist in the process
    6. Include your contact information (i.e. address, phone, email, etc.)

  2. Send the letter via email or mail to LSS along with the Intermediary Services fee of $45 to:

  3. You will be contacted once your adoption file has been retrieved at the orphanage and the Orphanage Director has recommended an attorney for you to work with for the birth parent search. You are responsible for attorney fees and any other related fees in this process.
