A program of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota which serves all people regardless of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, handicap or age.

Philippines Program

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota works in partnership with more than 35 Lutheran service agencies in 34 states and the Virgin Islands to provide adoption opportunities for children and families. This mission of this partnership, called the Lutheran Adoption Network (LAN), is to provide permanent adoptive homes for children from all countries in the world.

Adoptive families working with a LSS of Minnesota have complete access to the adoption programs, including the Philippines, of LAN member agencies.

The Children of The Philippines
The children available for adoption from the Philippines are usually 18 months to 2 years old. All families must be willing to accept a child up to the age of 2 years. Healthy children, children with special needs, and siblings are available. Families should be open to a child of either gender; more boys than girls are available. Most of the children have been in a receiving home, or an orphanage.

Medical conditions commonly found in “healthy” children include upper respiratory infections; some children need follow up for Tuberculosis upon placement. Parasites are common, as are scabies. Malnutrition may be a frequent part of a child’s history, and minor developmental delays are also common.

Adoption Requirements

  • Parents must at least 27 years old, and at least 16 years older than adoptive child; couples between 30-45 years of age are given preference
  • Couples must be married at least three years; no more than one divorce per spouse
  • Childless couples are given preference; if there are other children, 2-year age difference between child in home and adoptive child is preferred
  • Couples with strong Christian affiliation are given preference
  • Couples with Filipino heritage of other connections to Filipino culture are given preference
  • Singles considered for older children and children with special needs
  • One trip to the Philippines of 6 full days minimum, one or both parents may travel.
