MN Adoptive Parent Preparation Service Options:
Consultation
An LSS social worker will
consult with you on your specific Designated Adoption situation to determine
the needs and to plan for services to meet those needs. We consult with other
attorneys and agencies involved to coordinate a plan, including Interstate
Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) requirements.
Facilitation
An LSS social worker will be
assigned to help to facilitate your adoption plan and to coordinate the
services with other professionals involved throughout the entire process.
Adoption (Home) Study
After submitting the
completed adoption application, you will be assigned a social worker who will
meet with you to educate you on the adoption process and learn about your
family for the adoption study document. Close attention is paid to preparing
the written adoption study document to meet the expectations of other states
and professionals involved.
Adoption Training Workshop
LSS offers
education on the adoption process and general adoption issues. Trainings will
be tailored to your adoption situation.
MN Adoptive Parent Post Placement Service
Options:
Post Placement Supervision
To finalize your
adoption in Minnesota, families must have supervision of their adoption by an
MN agency for a minimum of three months after placement of the child in their
home. Other states may have additional post placement supervision
requirements. LSS will conduct the supervision interviews to meet the
requirements of both states. If you will be finalizing in the other state, LSS
will provide the post placement report to the professional in the other state.
Legal Adoption
Families, or an attorney on
their behalf, finalize their adoption in the state decided upon. When the
finalization will be in MN, LSS provides guidance to the family, a
recommendation and supportive documents to the MN court in the family's county
of residence. When the finalization will be in the other state, the process
will be coordinated by the professional in that state.
