    Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota.  Volunteers have shared a long history with the organization and continue to help services in a variety of ways.

    Tips for finding the right volunteer opportunity with LSS

    • Think about the type of experience you are looking for as a volunteer:
               I want to work with this population....
               I would like a group to help with....
               I'm/we're available....
               I want to volunteer because....
    • Search online for current volunteer opportunities.
    • Narrow your search by your availability, location and interest areas.
    • Apply for each volunteer opportunity you are interested in.  Volunteer opportunities are coordinated through the individual services so you may be contacted by a different staff member for each volunteer position.
    • Some of the group activities require assistance from volunteers, such as purchasing or preparing a meal. This will be explained in the opportunity description. 

    If you need additional help finding a volunteer opportunity, please complete the Volunteer Interest Form and we will contact you to help determine a good fit for your interests, skills and availability.



  • Volunteers Change Lives

    Playground Build


    The Center for Changing Lives received a new playground thanks to the generosity of Faegre and Benson Law firm in Minneapolis. In addition, 25 Volunteers from Faegre & Benson spent a beautiful fall day building the new play space.  Today, kids from the Park Ave Apartments and other services at The Center enjoy this great space.  Read the KARE11 story.

    Community Partnership Award

    “Over the past two years, United Healthcare of Duluth has partnered with Lutheran Social Service during the holiday season to grant wishes for youth and seniors within LSS's programs.     Community Volunteer Award & Spirit of Giving Award

    Sue and Jane were recognized by the LSS Staff in Duluth for their outstanding service to LSS during National Volunteer Appreciation Recognition event in April 2010. Sue received the Community Volunteer Award with her work at Renaissance Transitional Living. Jane received the Spirit of Giving Award with her work at Bethany Crisis Shelter. Both have a long history with LSS and continue give their all every time they volunteer. The staff and clients deeply appreciate all that they do and continue to do change lives at LSS!
